Turkey Shirt

Today I made Kara a t-shirt to wear for Thanksgiving. I found a tutorial here last year but it just took me 12 months to actually do it....

I found this cute shirt at Old Navy on Monday for $8. (Yucky picture)

Making shirts like this are really easy and you can applique just about anything---the key is to look for cute "plain" shirts  on sale so you can applique something fabulous on them.  I go shopping so rarely that when I am ready to do my applique I have to go buy a shirt for $8 instead of $2.  Jones Design Company (one of my favorite blogs) has an Easy-Peasy applique tutorial that doesn't require sewing. Basically I used the pattern from the turkey shirt and the process from JDC.

I think she will be already to eat some turkey next week! At least she will be cute doing so.

Stupid Monday

I titled this post "Stupid Monday" because I failed my glucose test this morning at the OB office and I'm really irritated about it. Now I have to spend 3 hours of my only day off this week in the office again, doing another glucose test. In the words of one of my friends, "Boo, hiss". Yes that is exactly how I feel.

In cuter news, Kara has done the following adorable things today:
1. Pointed her princess wand at the DVD player in the backseat of the car and tried to turn it on. She did not succeed, but did turn Mommy into a princess prior to entering Target--so not so bad.

2. Shared her security blanket with me when I was trying to get her to fall back asleep. "Here Mommy, you need some blanket too." Then kept making sure when she turned over, I had my little piece.

3. "Mommy, you my best friend"

4.  This afternoon it was in the 60s so I was having a hotflash in the car and put my window down a little and her window down too. To which she replied "Thanks for putting my window down. That was nice of you"---how polite!

We ended the evening with leftover taquitos I made last night, drawing with Daddy, and bathtime. She has a cold and along with every cold she gets now, she gets wheezing and a cough. So back to every 4 hour nebulizer treatments. Here she is before bed cuddled up with Daddy, watching Netflix on his phone and getting her treatment. Couldn't be cuter could they??

Lessons from Mom

The last two days Kara has had a little spunk in her than usual. Part of it is the fact that she is coming down with a cold and isn't feeling well. But the worst of it started last night.

Kara and I took a trip down to my parent's house to spend the night. Todd is out of town on business and since I hate (am too scared) to stay at home by myself. After 2 hours of feet stomping, crying, and teeth gnashing, she finally fell asleep at their house. We were both frustrated and exhausted by that time.

This morning she woke up at 7am and my parents let me sleep in while she did grandparent-y things with them like pancakes and crafts. When I woke up my mother reminded me of how when I was a baby she stayed up many nights with me while I was sick and how I was the only baby that she rocked to sleep every night. I rolled my eyes over my coffee and decided that she just "didn't understand".

Kara and I got home after lunch and she continued with her obstinate ways. I put her to bed and she slept only a little over an hour. When she woke up she was super grumpy crazy and threw two major fits within 8 minutes. I put her back in the bed where she cried.

I decided to take her into the new nursery and started to rock her. She cuddled up on my shoulder and fell asleep in my arms. She continued to snore away for 30 minutes in my arms and another hour in her own bed.

I guess my mom knows something or another about raising some babies :)
